FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Check out our blog for in-depth answers to many of your frequently asked questions!
How much should I take?
When in doubt, always start with a minimal dosage! We want you to have a safe and beneficial experience.
No one knows your body and your tolerance as well as you. The right dosage for one person could be ten times the right dosage for another! That’s why we don’t make claims about how much you should take, but rather suggest how to find the right dosage for you. In fact, we wrote a whole blog post on this question, which you can find here.
With all of our products, we recommend starting small and increasing as desired. Effects can be delayed up to 1-2 hours, so be sure to wait a while before taking more.
How much THC/CBD is in a dose?
Each product on our product page has potency and dosage information both in the images as well as the description.
For FSO products, dosage varies by batch. Dosage information can be found on the front label!
Can I order your products online?
Unfortunately, state law prohibits Proof from selling direct to consumers online. However, many cannabis dispensaries do offer online shopping and delivery.
California law requires cannabis products to be sold only by licensed retailers (dispensaries), which are limited to in-person storefront and delivery transactions within the state of California. Cannabis cannot legally be shipped in the mail.
Please note that due to Federal cannabis prohibition, Proof products cannot be sold outside the state of California.
WHAT STRAIN ARE YOUR PRODUCTS MADE FROM? ARE THEY INDICA OR SATIVA?
Our tinctures and capsules are not strain-specific. We use highly refined cannabis for these products, which eliminates plant compounds (called terpenes) that define the strain, and retain the cannabinoids in the plant. This is intentional, as some people have undesirable responses to terpenes, and they cannot be exactly replicated from batch to batch, leading to inconsistent experiences and effects.
If you’re really wondering whether it’ll make you feel calm, energized, giddy, or sleepy, the best way to test that is to try some and find out! Effects claims on these types of products are common, but the truth is that people can have widely different responses to the same product.
If you’re looking for a strain-specific or terpene-rich product, we do have FSO! These products are labeled with the dominant strain on the front of the product, and can vary by batch. The top three terpenes of the batch can also be found on the front label of the product - the terpene profile can often be more descriptive than the strain name!
Are your products full-plant or full-spectrum?
Our tinctures, capsules, and topicals are made from refined cannabis oil. The oil is purified to enhance the effects of the cannabinoids themselves, and avoid possible side-effects that people can experience from things like chlorophyll and some specific terpenes, which we remove.
Our FSO is made from a raw extract, which retains terpenes, flavonoids, chlorophyll, and other plant matter.
For more information about what “full spectrum” means and how it might affect you, check out our blog post on this question!
Why are my capsules liquid/solid?
Our capsules are made with coconut oil and are designed to be solid at room temperature to avoid leakage. However, temperatures in your home, car, or bag can fluctuate. If the contents are heated, the material in the capsule can liquify, and may leak. We recommend keeping capsules in a cool, dry place to get the best shelf-life and consistency.
How are your products tested?
Our products are tested multiple times throughout manufacturing. In fact, our products are some of the most tested, and therefor safest, consumer products on the market. We test our products far more thoroughly than do baby food manufacturers, for instance!
First, we test the plant material for pesticides and potency. Then, after extraction and distillation, we test the cannabinoid distillate again for pesticides and potency to be sure that no contamination or concentration of pesticides has occurred. We then formulate the final products, which are tested by batch for potency, pesticides, foreign materials, residual solvent, microbial presence, mycotoxins, water activity, and heavy metals.
Compliant with California laws and regulations, final products must pass this final batch testing in order to be sold at retail market. If a product test differs significantly from potency claims on the label, we relabel it to reflect the actual potency of the batch before being sent to the retail market.
We also have a blog post about this, if you’d like more information!
Are Proof products organic?
California state law does not allow Cannabis to be classified as “organic”. That being said, we only use cannabis cultivated without the use of pesticides. All Proof products also pass rigorous pesticide testing as well as other quality assurance, outlined in the question above! As a result, our products are much more extensively tested, and thus far safer, than are normal “organic” products.
Why is my product a different color than last time?
Cannabis oil (the main contributor to the color of our products) can vary in color for numerous reasons due to differences in plant material. CBD-rich oil is typically lighter in color than THC-rich oil. Also, the amount of oil used in each batch also differs depending on the potency of the oil. Therefore, each batch’s color can differ in the yellow/gold shade spectrum.
Are your products vegan?
Yes! All of our products (including the capsules!) are made without animal by-products. We have worked very hard to use vegan capsules, and are happy to report that our capsules are not made with any animal gelatin, ever. To our knowledge, Proof is the only vegan capsule or softgel product on the California cannabis market.
What are your capsules made of?
Our capsules are entirely vegetable based and contain only two ingredients: HPMC and water. HPMC stands for hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, and is derived from vegetable cellulose. 100% natural, our capsules contain no preservatives, gelatin, wheat, gluten, animal by-products or starch, and they are typically made from pure cellulose of either pine or poplar.
What carrier oils are used in your products?
In our capsules, we use extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil as a carrier oil.
In our tinctures, we use MCT Oil. MCT (medium-chain triglycerides) is coconut oil that has undergone a heating process to separate and isolate medium-chain fatty acids that are liquid at room temperature. We never use MCT oil derived from palm kernels, only coconut-derived.
Both oils are healthy and safe. They also partner well with the cannabis oils to maximize bioavailability and deliver the cannabinoids to the endocannabinoid system of the body.
